Kawasaki cites an interesting study: two social scientists (Neil Rackham and John Carlisle) found that the best negotiators spend 40% of their preparation time finding shared interests with the other party.

Be honest: are you taking the time to really understand and connect with people? Of course it’s important to have a solid product/offering, but building trust and confidence with decision makers is a critical ingredient for success. Finding shared passions is both a great way to develop relationships, and add joy to your own life.
